{"id":1080,"date":"2010-02-17T18:14:56","date_gmt":"2010-02-18T02:14:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eliasbizannes.com\/blog\/?p=1080"},"modified":"2010-02-17T18:14:56","modified_gmt":"2010-02-18T02:14:56","slug":"ubiquity-its-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eliasbizannes.com\/blog\/2010\/02\/ubiquity-its-coming\/","title":{"rendered":"Ubiquity &#8211; it&#8217;s coming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I <a href=\"http:\/\/panelpicker.sxsw.com\/ideas\/view\/2693\">applied to do a panel to SXSW<\/a> on a topic I deeply believe in and want the world to get excited about: I call it <a href=\"https:\/\/eliasbizannes.com\/blog\/2009\/05\/the-future-is-webiqitous\/\">ubiquity<\/a>. My topic was rejected because it&#8217;s too broad a topic (fair point), but with <a href=\"http:\/\/thestartupbus.com\/\">The Startup Bus<\/a> (that thing l<a href=\"https:\/\/eliasbizannes.com\/blog\/2010\/02\/the-startup-bus\/\">launched last week<\/a>), I&#8217;m going to make it a live example testing the limits of ubiquity and a barometer of that progress.<\/p>\n<p>Ubiquity relates to some long term trends in our society that are now converging: the fact we can access information and computing resources wherever and whenever we are. We can see it now with the changes to <a href=\"https:\/\/eliasbizannes.com\/blog\/2009\/06\/the-internet-iran-and-ubiquity\/\">how we get the news<\/a>. But here is a more dramatic example, as it&#8217;s the examples &#8211; not the rhetoric explaining it &#8211; that get me excited.<\/p>\n<p>a) <a href=\"http:\/\/spectrum.ieee.org\/biomedical\/bionics\/augmented-reality-in-a-contact-lens\/0\">Contact lenses that contain a computer chip in them<\/a><\/p>\n<p>b) <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/technology\/8165928.stm\">Wireless electricity<\/a>: it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/news.idg.no\/cw\/art.cfm?id=14BC23AA-1A64-67EA-E4954B0CBCFF69D3\">happening<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>c) <a href=\"http:\/\/googletranslate.blogspot.com\/2010\/02\/integrating-translation-into-google.html\">Google translate integrated into Google googles<\/a><\/p>\n<p>a +b + c = awesome.
